AfLIA launches President’s Fund fundraising campaign!
The African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) has launched the President’s Fund with a target of US$1Million. This was done on Tuesday 16 th May at the Djeuga Palace Hotel, Yaounde, Cameroon at the opening of the 4th Africa Library Summit and 2 nd AfLIA Conference. The President’s Fund is intended to spur innovation in library and information services delivery and ensure the sustainability of AfLIA.
The President, Mr. John Tsebe (image inset), though a retired person, was the first to launch the new fundraising drive by donating the first fifty dollars (US$50) to the fund and urged participants at the conference to do same. This encouraged them to also contribute towards the cause. In the few days that followed, participants held a ‘Harambee’ literally meaning “pull together” which is a kiSwahili word invoking the African’s spirit of self-reliance against odds.
The Harambee was led by Irene Onyancha a conference participant. All those who contributed at the conference became “Founding Donors”. Beyond the conference, we are reaching out to you to participate as a Founding Donor to the AfLIA President’s Fund. We invite you to be part of a movement that will help libraries transform lives in Africa. Libraries that build hope in our communities. The President’s Fund will help libraries to be innovative institutions that change lives in Africa. AfLIA has galvanised the public library sector, which is the primary library for every individual in Africa, to build libraries that reduce illiteracy, promote digital literacy, and address health, and many other issues. More can still be done with your help! We invite you to be a “Founding Donor” of the President’s Fund. The campaign will run until we realise our target! Please see more details below:
Please donate generously for the development of innovative libraries and sustainability of AfLIA.
