AfLIA NOMINATIONS & ELECTIONS

Dear AfLIA members

You will recall that I sent out this notification below for Nominations. I am repeating it here to refresh your minds.
 

PROCEDURE FOR NOMINATION AND ELECTION

  1. Please submit completed Forms to the Executive Director, AfLIA at hrah@aflia.net with a copy to secretariat@aflia.net on or before 13th March 2017. Late submissions will not be accepted. Please print and complete the form, scan and send.

  2. Each member is entitled to one nomination for each position.

  3. SHORTLISTED CANDIDATES will be those who receive more than ONE nomination.

  4. List of SHORTLISTED CANDIDATES will be sent to members on 20th March 2017 for voting.

  5. Voting should be COMPLETED by sending the sheet with your ticks against your chosen candidates to hrah@aflia.net with a copy to secretariat@aflia.net on or before 3rd April 2017.

  6. Results will be announced on 10th April 2017 and new officers will be introduced to members at the Closing Dinner of the 4th African Library Summit and 2nd AfLIA Conference in Yaounde, Cameroon on 19th May 2017 and begin their two- year term of office on 20th May 2017.

The nominations were received and because No.3 above could not be met by most of the nominees, it was not necessary to conduct an election.

All the returned nomination sheets are available for inspection.

SUMMARY OF OUTCOME OF NOMINATIONS

  1. PRESIDENT

There were 11 nominations for Mr. John Tsebe and none for any one so Mr. John Tsebe stands elected unopposed as PRESIDENT of AfLIA for 2017 - 2019.

  1. VICE - PRESIDENT

There were 5 nominations for Mr. Mandla Ntombela, 1 each for Mr. Richard Atuti, Prof Rocky Ralebipi-Simela and Mrs Velenasi Munsanje. Mr. Mandla Ntombela stands elected as VICE-PRESIDENT of AfLIA for 2017 - 2019 because the other candidates do not qualify to be voted for as each got only one nomination.

  1. REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES

    1. There were 3 nominations for Mr. Alim Garga and no other nominations so Mr. Alim Garga stands elected unopposed as REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE – CENTRAL AFRICA for AfLIA for 2017 – 2019.

    2. There were 3 nominations for Dr. Sarah Kaddu 1 each for Mr.Tilahun Shiferaw and Mr. Arnold Mwanzu. Dr. Sarah Kaddu stands elected as REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE – EAST AFRICA for AfLIA for 2017 – 2019 because the other candidates do not qualify to be voted for as each got only one nomination.

    3. There were 3 nominations for Ms. Rania Shaarawy and no other nominations so Ms. Rania Shaarawy stands elected unopposed as REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE – NORTH AFRICA for AfLIA for 2017 – 2019.

    4. There were 3 nominations for Mrs. Segametsi Molawa , 1 each for Mr. Lantern Fusire, Ms. Nomaza Dingayo and Mr.Jasper Lee Maenzanise. Mrs. Segemetsi Molawa stands elected as REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE – SOUTHERN AFRICA for AfLIA for 2017 – 2019 because the other candidates do not qualify to be voted for as each got only one nomination.

    5. There were 3 nominations for Mrs. Matilda Johnson and 1 for Dr. Mrs. Rose Okiy. Mrs. Matilda Johnson stands elected as REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE – WEST AFRICA for AfLIA for 2017 - 2019 because the other candidate did not qualify to be voted for as she got only one nomination.

    6. There were 2 nominations for Mr. Antonin Benoit Diouf and 1 for Mrs Cecile Coulibaly. Mr. Antonin Benoit Diouf stands elected as REPRESENTATIVE - FRENCH SPEAKING WEST AFRICA for AfLIA for 2017 - 2019 because the other candidate did not qualify to be voted for as she got only one nomination.

    7. There were no nominations for a Portuguese Speaking Africa Representative

There were 2 nominations for Mrs. Nthabiseng Kotsokoane and I for Mrs Segemetsi Molawa.. Mrs. Nthabiseng Kotsokoane stands elected as CHAIRPERSON , ACADEMIC & SPECIAL LIBRARIES SECTION of AfLIA for 2017 - 2019 because the other candidate did not qualify to be voted for as she got only one nomination.

  1. Public and Community Libraries

There were 3 nominations for Dr. Nkem Osuigwe and none from any other. Dr. Nkem Osuigwe therefore stands elected as CHAIRPERSON, PUBLIC AND COMMUNITY LIBRARIES SECTION of AfLIA for 2017 - 2019.

  1. National Libraries

There were 3 nominations for Prof. Rocky Ralebipi -Simela and none from any other. Prof. Rocky Ralebipi -Simela therefore stands elected unopposed as CHAIRPERSON, NATIONAL LIBRARIES SECTION of AfLIA for 2017 - 2019

  1. National Library Association

There were 3 nominations for Mrs. Velenasi- Mwale Munsanje and one for Dr Nkem Osuigwe. Mrs. Velenasi- Mwale Munsanje stands elected as CHAIRPERSON, NATIONAL LIBRARY ASSOCIATIONS SECTION of AfLIA for 2017 - 2019 because the other candidate did not qualify to be voted for as she got only one nomination.

  1. National Library Consortia

There were 2 nominations for Mr. Jasper Lee Maezanise and one for Mr. Eric Nelson Haumba. Mr. Jasper Lee Maezanise stands elected as CHAIRPERSON, NATIONAL LIBRARY CONSORTIA SECTION of AfLIA for 2017 - 2019 because the other candidate did not qualify to be voted for as he got only one nomination.

There were 3 nominations for Dr. Bernard Dione and one for Prof Kigongo Bukenya.
